Serena Gosbee -  Monday, March 17th, 2008 8:45 AM EDT
Uncle Fred and Aunt Julie - It was great to see (and to hear) you yesterday! I always love when your concerts come close enough to home so we can stop and see you both. I hope you get some time to rest after all of your travels lately!

Rodney Cole -  Sunday, March 2nd, 2008 11:40 PM EST
Another wonderful visit. The house concert was grand and the church service, as last year's did, left them talking and wondering if next year will come soon. I took the liberty of passing your name on to the Gainsville people and you may be hearing from them. Hope to see you this summer. I see it will be 4 years ago this summer that I first heard you at the UMA concert, but it seems like you have always been one of the best parts of my musical life.

 Kristy Chinchillo-Kushmeider -  Sunday, January 27th, 2008 8:04 PM EST
Hi Fred and Julia! Fred you may remember me from years ago. I am Leigh's sister,Kristy.I stumbled across this site and saw that you are going to be in my area in February. I would love to see you. I still remember the song you used to sing "Where am I to Go"!!! I also still have the guitar you gave my brother. Drop a line when you have a moment. My very best to you both, Kristy

ken lauderdale -  Monday, September 24th, 2007 11:45 AM EDT
we miss your lyrical stories at the concerts on the green at St Mary's city. I believe I'll just have to make a pilgrimage to your coves down'east. I've worn new grooves in the CDs. Y'know you can do new revisions on the stories you've told without hurting our expectations.... new ol, beaten, hot-busted Minglewood blues is always fun...

Rebecca Erskine -  Thursday, August 30th, 2007 2:01 PM EDT
Hi! It's me again! I wrote a note soooo long ago, and here's another one! You 2 visited my school a few times, and I had a blast each time! Now I have graduated Edgecome Eddy, and am at Wiscasset Middle School! Please come visit!

 Maddy -  Saturday, July 7th, 2007 1:21 PM EDT
The Grand Design was wonderful! Castlebay is to blame for my love of the harp and Celtic music. All it took was one school visit when I was in second grade (ack, six years ago)! Thank you very much for your inspiration.

 maynard & Joan Clemons -  Monday, May 21st, 2007 8:56 AM EDT
Missed you in January when we had to cancel a planned trip to Boothbay; have a previous committment (that we can't get out of) so we'll miss you this week at the Hutchinson Center here in Belfast; and we'll be leaving for Nova Scotia mid-June so we won't be at St. Margaret's for your JUly concert there. Bummer! However, we did take in "The Grand Design" last Saturday at the Poe theater and want to congratulate you on a great production. We (and obviously all of the audience) thoroughly enjoyed the show. Julia, your 4 years of research really paid off. All our best, M&J

Marko of the Bilge Rats ! -  Sunday, March 18th, 2007 1:37 PM EDT
Great site you have here! We should check to see if you two have plans for the 1st weekend in December as that is the weeknd for our British Night Watch here in St Augustine....Lots of music, Military arts , Formal Teas, Sutlers, street Theater and a Parade... I'll get you more info if you'd like. Take Care ! Y.M.H. & O.S. Marko

Rod Cole -  Tuesday, March 6th, 2007 9:48 PM EST
People are still buzzing about your house concert at our home in late February. And the cds are getting to be very familiar in our car. The church service you did here on March 2 is also reckoned to be one of the best ever. Hope Florida will be on your schedule again within a year or two.

 Erin -  Sunday, January 28th, 2007 7:48 PM EST
I know that this is way overdue, but I just wanted to thank you for playing at my wedding out in Durango, Colorado (2005)...it couldn't have been better!! Thank you!!

Carol James -  Thursday, December 7th, 2006 6:05 PM EST

 Quato -  Sunday, November 12th, 2006 12:01 PM EST
I really enjoyed your performance last evening in Dexter...usually we have a bigger crowd....too bad, because they really missed out on an outstanding performance....maybe we'll see you this Friday in Augusta....and I'll see if I can get some others to join us. Thanks again for the fine evening we spent with you.

Julia Lewis (maiden name 'Lane') -  Wednesday, November 8th, 2006 7:19 PM EST

Ramona Lentovich -  Tuesday, November 7th, 2006 12:42 AM EST
Hi Fred and Julia! I was just checking your website to see if you were going to be in my vicinity anytime soon. I see where you will be in Dexter next weekend. Wish I was a lot nearer than three hours away!!!!! Oh, well... I'll have to content myself by listening to your CDs!!! Hope to see you next year -- maybe at the school reunion next fall (if not sooner)?? 2007 marks a big one for our class, Fred! Unbelievable!! I remember when we were in high school and thinking that 10 years out of school was a LONG time!!! Well, you guys have a great time in Dexter. Love, Ramona

 Sandra S. Williford -  Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 10:20 AM EST

Loved your Grand Manan concert! As a 2-time square-rig sailor & tall ship junkie, I am enjoying the "Cappy John" album. "Ramona" gives me chills... Looking forward to next year's concert!? :)

Ann and Tom Wetzel -  Monday, August 28th, 2006 6:31 PM EDT
Tom and I were at your Grand Manan concert last Sat night and appreciate your music and instruments. We came to the stage and talked with you afterward - Tom is a boatbuilder (maybe you'll remember). We purchased your "Islands in Time" CD and took the "long way" home as we listened to it. We've had it on daily since... thank you for sharing your talents. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. Ann Wetzel

 edie -  Tuesday, March 28th, 2006 6:51 PM EST
I'd like to introduce myself. I am a Gosbee from Nova Scotia whos ancestors came to halifax in 1749 on the ship Alexander. It is my understanding that only one Gosbee family came over, and there is a small geneology written. Do you know if you are related to any of those, being a decendent from New Brunswick. Thanx, and I'd love to hear from you. Edie

Wish I had known Fred Gosbee and Julia Lane were in South Carolina and Ashville, North Carolina! I just found their music on a trip to Maine. In fact it was Raye's in Eastport where I heard the beautiful voice of Julia and bought a couple of cds to listen to on the rest of the trip.

 Chrissy -  Sunday, June 26th, 2005 5:39 PM EDT
I know it was a long time ago, but I just wanted to tell you guys how much I enjoyed your concert at the library in Avon, CT. I'm sorry that I had to leave early. I had a voice lesson to get to. :) It was so great to meet you both and talk to you!

Rodney Cole -  Friday, May 6th, 2005 11:52 PM EDT
With the leadership of Jim Davis, another Mainer in Florida, we did get a coffee house under way and have been averaging about 80 at the monthly concerts; so far our pay rates are low (or no)and we are using mostly some very fine local talent, but some day... Meanwhile I will back in Maine this summer to teach at UMA and live again in Belgrade. Hope to see you at least once. See you will be at South Church, but that one is marked "private."

Mary Hood -  Tuesday, April 5th, 2005 8:42 PM EDT
I heard your concert last night at Kimball Farms in Lenox, MA. I wish I could have listened all night. I look forward to buying your CD's and having my friends hear.

 Kimli -  Sunday, April 3rd, 2005 4:55 PM EDT
Hello! I'm a 17-year-old high school student in upstate New York, and I went to your program today April 3rd at my local library. I was very impressed by the entire production (especially considering how well you handled sound in a small, concrete room). I wish I had the money to purchase your CD's, because your voices went straight to my heart and I wanted nothing more than to sit and listen for hours more. Thank you so much for taking the time to come by and share with us your knowledge and talent.

Jayne Champagne -  Friday, March 18th, 2005 2:04 PM EST
I adore Celtic music - especially harp - and look forward to hearing you play live tonight (3/18/05) in Holyoke, MA. I'm also hoping to catch a performance of yours (if there is one) in Maine this summer as I visit there every year. Blessings!

michael Loud -  Sunday, February 13th, 2005 11:51 PM EST
Hello, While doing some family research I've discovered I have relitives who lived and died on loud's island. I would love to visit the island. Does anyone know how I find a place to rent in the summer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless! Michael Loud

Marjorie Osterhout -  Monday, February 7th, 2005 10:51 PM EST
Greetings from a distant cousin, descended from Georgina Gosbee (Matthew, John). I'd love to hear what branch of the Gosbee family you come from. I've also ordered a couple of your recordings - it's funny how love of the sea travels through the generations!

Becky Hawkins -  Monday, January 31st, 2005 10:12 AM EST
I just bought TapestryII and Tapestry VI and I love your music. The back of the CD says that posters and note paper are available matching the scenes on the covers of the CD's. Can we see these on line?

  -  Thursday, January 27th, 2005 9:40 AM EST
I simply had to put your website in my Favourites -- it is something I look forward to referring to whenever the need arises! If you do come out with a book, I'll look for it!

George Baldwin -  Monday, January 24th, 2005 2:54 PM EST
Virginia Horler has just told me the fabulous near-confirmation that our Baldwin ancestor was a Greenlaw Loyalist, Hannah. Now the fun begins (for a Canadian, at any rate). Cheers from GB

Kelley Roberts -  Thursday, January 20th, 2005 4:57 PM EST
I truly enjoyed the quality of the performance today at NGCSU. I was delighted that the show was inspired by one of my favorite poets, Robert Burns. Hearing the songs performed to their original music added a wonderful new dimension to some old favorites.

Mimi Michaud -  Wednesday, January 19th, 2005 12:48 PM EST
I saw you perform at Sugarloaf's X-country center a few years ago, any chance you will be back there or in that area again? I'd love to see/hear you it was wonderful.

 Jo & Lawrence Loupin -  Monday, December 27th, 2004 3:29 PM EST
We received a copy of your latest CD, "The Night the Whiskey Froze" from Scott & Noelle for Christmas. It is super nice and a great gift!!! Hope you are able to come back to Lincoln for another concert soon Love ya! Jo & Lawrence

Ramona Lentovich -  Sunday, December 26th, 2004 4:57 PM EST
Just checking your schedule to see if you are going to be in this area anytime soon. I thoroughly enjoyed the concert in Eastport - have been bragging about you to all my friends ever since!!! It was so great to renew an old friendship and to make a new friend at the same time!!! I hope you folks had a Merry Christmas and I'm wishing you a wonderful new year!

Tom Lyman -  Monday, December 6th, 2004 12:24 AM EST
Don't let this get around too much, but my favorite harp CD is the Julia Lane/Deborah Friou. Yuletide Treasures! I spin it all day on repeat when I need 'soothing', but it's really got a 'kick' to it too on some tracks! This is the first time I've explored the Castlebay site... Have a merry and a happy! Happy Holiday Harping! Tom

Phil Covello -  Saturday, July 31st, 2004 11:08 PM EDT
I saw you at the Harpswell fair this past week, and I was FLOORED by what I heard. Your music sent chivers up and down my spine, I could not have imagined a better way to capture the essence of Maine and its culture. I am from New Jersey, and was just lucky enough to stumble upon your concert while on vacation. My word, it was the best I have ever seen. You introduced me to a world of music, melodies that seem to have been lost ages ago, but deeply touch the human soul. Thank you both, and much love. - Phil

Tom Lynn -  Friday, July 30th, 2004 11:57 AM EDT

Enjoyed hearing you in Augusta, July 22. I wonder if we can somehow arrange to come to Florida to sing at our UU coffeehouse (if we can get it organized) and perhaps the Sunday Sampler.

christine lavin -  Monday, July 26th, 2004 4:03 PM EDT

Christina Brundage -  Friday, June 4th, 2004 5:46 PM EDT
Hello from David James and Christina Brundage, We thought you would be interested in our new site - http://www.alexander-ritchie.co.uk/ - which is a tribute to the wonderful craftwork of Scottish silversmiths Alexander and Euphemia Ritchie, who lived and worked on the tiny island of Iona in Scotland's Inner Hebrides from c.1900 to their death in 1941. The Ritchies were pioneers of the Celtic art revival of the early 20th century, and the quality of their work has yet to be surpassed. Recently an increasing number of Celtic enthusiasts are becoming acquainted with their work, which by some is seen as being a metalwork equivalent of George Bain's beautiful art. Our intention is to provide a website where not only information about the Ritchies can be gleaned, but examples of their silver and other metalwork from the early 20th century can be seen. If you are already familar with the work of the Ritchies and have any unusual pictures you would like to send us for inclusion on the site, we will be happy to do so free of charge. Please send pictures in jpg format not more that 50KB in size. We hope very much that you enjoy the site - and if you do please leave any comments about your visit in the Comments/Visitors book on the main page. Slainte and best wishes, David and Christina

Kathleen Hardy -  Friday, May 7th, 2004 11:17 AM EDT
Julia-I recently read that you were giving a talk this summer on the Grand Design. One of my ancestors survived the shipwreck and settled in Warren Maine. I would love to see any info you have on the shipwreck and survivors. Are you a descendent as well? Kathleen

Hope Berrill -  Monday, March 22nd, 2004 1:39 PM EST

 Susan -  Monday, February 2nd, 2004 1:23 PM EST
Great celebration last night for Imbolc. I feel sorry for the Super Bowlers who missed it. I looked for a way to celebrate my birthday, (which was really Sat.), that would be special and fun, in spite of Super Bowl weekend and I found it. And I did make it home in time to catch the end of the game which is really all I need to see. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening. Note to Julia: The two names I gave you are expecting, and will welcome, your call.

Dottie and Bob Spitzer, Orrs Island Maine -  Monday, February 2nd, 2004 11:40 AM EST
Thanks for a truly enjoyable evening last night(2/1/04) in celebration of Imbolc at the St. Lawrence Art and Community Center on Munjoy Hill in Portland. The music was wonderful! You are a joy to listen to.Thanks!

Jim Nash -  Thursday, January 1st, 2004 10:31 AM EST
Will you be giving a public performance in the Mid-coast area in July? My wife and I have enjoyed hearing you on your CD's. However we received more at the two live performances we were lucky enough to be able to attend. The setting at the little brown church in Round Pond was especially nice. We are from away (although my wife was born in Bath, Maine) and vist in July.

Peter Holsapple -  Saturday, December 27th, 2003 9:55 AM EST
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to y'all. I sure hope our paths cross sometime this year. Lost your email address again, so here's my plaintive cry in the wilderness. Thirty years since Exeter, Julia... scary to think about it in those terms... Much love, Peter and family
